02/12/2025 - Major project underway at the Batalha Monastery's Unfinished Chapels
ERA Arqueologia begins one of the largest conservation and restoration projects in its history
One of the most ambitious conservation and restoration projects ever undertaken by ERA Arqueologia has recently begun. The project is taking place at the iconic Imperfect Chapels of the Batalha Monastery, a site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Promoted by the Batalha Municipal Council, the project aims to restore the stonework that makes up this unique space in detail, seeking to preserve historical materials and techniques whilst gradually revealing its original appearance. The project relies on rigorous analysis, diagnosis and the application of methodologies compatible with the nature and history of the monument.
The Imperfect Chapels constitute one of the most significant ensembles of Gothic and Manueline architecture in Portugal, and the work currently underway represents a fundamental contribution to their safeguarding and heritage enhancement.
Throughout the works, ERA Arqueologia will share information on the progress, raising community awareness of the importance of preserving our collective heritage and the value of the technical professions involved in this process.
