History

In 1997, Miguel Lago and Henrique Pestana had the idea to found ERA Arqueologia, S.A., with the goal of creating an innovative structure in the historical and archaeological heritage sector, capable of practicing Archaeology and approaching Heritage in a more professional, innovative way, with greater social impact. The company’s founding resulted from the initiative of partners who combined skills and a shared vision to transform the field.

At the time, Portuguese archaeology was undergoing profound changes, driven by legislative updates in environmental and heritage areas, the public impact of the discovery of the rock art in the Côa Valley, and the institutional autonomy of the sector. It became clear that specialized structures were needed, capable of effectively responding to the new demands of society and development projects.

Today, ERA is a comprehensive Heritage company, strongly focused on archaeology, conservation and restoration, biological anthropology, and heritage communication. Since its foundation, the company has maintained the principle that Heritage management should be based on professional, technically qualified organizations, oriented towards innovation and rigor, operating in a demanding and properly regulated market.

ERA remains committed to this mission, guiding its work through responsible management, high ethical and technical-scientific standards, continuous innovation, and the ongoing development and valorization of its teams.
