17th-century ship discovered on Lisbon's waterfront

20/10/2020 - 17th-century ship discovered on Lisbon's waterfront

ERA's team discovered a 17th-century ship during an intervention carried out on Lisbon's waterfront, specifically in the area of the old Praia da Boavista, located between Cais do Sodré and Santos. This is yet another major event in the archaeology of Lisbon, a city that in recent centuries has grown towards the River Tagus.

This fundamental finding requires in-depth research since the presence of mud and other damp environments means that specific methods must be adopted, both in the archaeological excavation and in the management of the organic remains that are preserved here.
